‘Janapada’ is the oral folk tradition of Karnataka. This expression in the form of the Tripadi (Tercet)and Chowpadi (Quatrain) is transmitted and perpetuated by oral tradition. It is generally poems with beautiful narrations of events from daily rural life. It represents the uninhibited response to life experiences in a variety of aspects from the rural culture that connects to our roots.
The Karnataka Lalithkala Academy has initiated the mission of combining historical and cultural heritage with urban development to safeguard the intangible Cultural Heritage of our nation.
As a part of the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Karnataka Lalithkala Academy is organizing the “Folk Art Camp” in collaboration with the National Gallery of Modern Art (Bengaluru) and Karnataka Janapada Parishath (Bengaluru) with the support of Akhila Karnataka Janapada Kalavidara Okkuta.
The Folk art camp will be based on the Janapada Tripadi (Tercet, Poems with three-line stanzas) which have their own traditional style, rhyme, and meaning. Listening to the Janapada tripadi, artists will create a visual translation of the tripadis on the wall and as well as on the canvas. This camp will be an excellent communication of folk art forms between an artist and the audience.
The camp will go on till 2nd October 2021 at Janapada Loka Ramanagar
