Benodebehari Mukherjee was born on the 7th of
February 1904 in Behala, a suburb of Calcutta.
An early childhood illness left him with an
impairedeyesight, preventing him from pursuing a
systematic schooling. Born into a highly
literate middle class family, with elder
brothers whose interestand talent for literature
and the arts, contributed to his own abiding
interest. And this brought him at the age of
								thirteen to Santiniketan.
