The image has a reference to the life of Buddha. It is said that during the period of austerities when Buddha was seeking enlightenment, he had to struggle with many obstacles designed to disturb his meditation. This delicately painted image visualises a man rising above overwhelming impediments. The artist uses a stylised language to depict the scene.
