The Art Reference Library of the National Gallery
of Modern Art comprises books on painting,
sculpture, graphics, architecture and other
minor arts in order to cater to the needs of
various academic disciplines such as history of
art, art criticism and art appreciation. The
Library subscribes to 32 art magazines of Indian
and International origin; among these the
important ones are Burlington Magazine,
Leonardo, Art News, Art in America and Studio.
Card Indexes and photographs of works of art,
owned by the National Gallery of Modern Art, are
kept for reference and research purposes in
three sequences

- Accession-wise
- Alphabetical listing of artists; and
- Classification according to media
- All exhibits borrowed by the National Gallery
of Modern Art for the Special Exhibitions
arranged from time to time are photographed in
black and white. These photographs are also
available for study and research at the
Documentation Centre.
To augment the potential of our Documentation
Centre, the National Gallery of Modern Art
permanently maintains a full-fledged Photo
Studio.
